Reading Buddies
WHO CAN VOLUNTEER?:
Tweens and teens in 6th grade and up are welcome to volunteer.
If it's summer, you can volunteer if you will be entering 6th grade in the fall.
Even if you have previously been a volunter for this program, you MUST sign up to attend a Reading Buddy orientation.
WHAT VOLUNTEERS DO:
Volunteers read one-on-one with a child ages 5 and up for 20-minute sessions.Â
Library staff will help you and your buddy select appropriate reading material.Â
Depending on the child, volunteers may read a story out loud while the child follows along or volunteers may listen to the child read and help her sound out words.Â
TIME COMMITMENT:
This program runs year long.
Volunteers are asked to commit to a minimum of 2 time slots.
You are welcome to volunteer for as many time slots as you wish.
Adopt a Shelf
WHO CAN VOLUNTEER?:
Tweens and teens in 6th grade and up are welcome to volunteer.
If it's summer, you can volunteer if you will be entering 6th grade in the fall.
If you have never volunteered for this program before, you MUST sign up to attend an Adopt a Shelf Volunteer orientation.
WHAT VOLUNTEERS DO:
Volunteers select a section of shelves located in the Children's Room, to keep in order (this is called Shelf Reading). Some sections require a bigger time commitment to keep in order than others. Library staff will help you pick a section that fits within the amount of time you are willing to commit.
Cleaning supplies will be provided for you to lightly dust the section of shelves you have adopted.
TIME COMMITMENT:
This program runs year round.
New Volunteers cannot begin until they attend an orientation session which is held 2 to 3 times per year.
Volunteers are asked to come in at least once per month (any time that fits within their schedule).
Volunteers are welcome to visit as many times as is necessary to keep their shelf in order.
WHO CAN VOLUNTEER?:
Tweens and teens in 6th grade and up are welcome to volunteer.
If it's summer, you can volunteer if you will be entering 6th grade in the fall.
Volunteers must be willing to interact with young children and their parents in an engaged and enthusiastic way.
WHAT VOLUNTEERS DO:
Volunteers assist Library Staff set up, help children with activities and clean up at various times and dates through the year.
Volunteers may help children with creative craft projects.
Volunteers may help children with beginning coding or other science, technology, engineering and math (S.T.E.M.).
TIME COMMITMENT:
Depending on the individual program, volunteers are asked to commit to 2 to 3 hours for any given program.
You are welcome to volunteer for as many time slots as you wish.
